Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The Pousada Solar do Morro is concerned on the preservation of the environment in Morro de Sao Paulo, so it adopts simple rules that make a big difference. Carmen, the owner, has collected plastic bottles used in the pousada and when she traveled to Salvador city, she has distributed them to poor people in the street to make use of the materials for sale to the recycling cooperatives.

The Pousada uses energy-saving systems in all rooms, as well as energy-saving bulbs and sensors. It also has solar heating system. The change of towels in the rooms is suggested by the guests on this way: when the towel is on the floor it means it needs to be changed and when the towel is on the rack, it is because it is clean. So this way the pousada is saving water and reducing the use of chemicals, decreasing the damage to the nature.
