Sustainability
Perola do Morro (Morro’s Pearl) is of the companies of the group “Jóias do Morro” (Morro’s Jewels). Ingrid Soares Batista and Marcel Cardim are its owners. The enterprise started a long time ago with Ingrid’s parents. They are from Morro de São Paulo and work with fishery. At first they bought a house where the hotel is and later they bought a restaurant.
Ingrid is an administrator and works in the administration department of the hotel. She divides her day between her job, her house and her daughter, Maria Flor. The girl is her first child, that’s why she tries to stay with “baby” as much as she can, but at the same time, she works a lot so after 15 days that Maria Flor was born she went back to work. She lives very close to the hotel and it is a way to conciliate work and family. On her days off, she likes to spend her time with her family at the beach in Morro de São Paulo. She is in love with the island and she says that when she travels to other destinations she is absolutely certain that Morro is the most beautiful place in the world.
Marcel is from Valença, a city located very close to Morro de São Paulo. He has been living on the island for 5 years. He studied tourism at the university and works with reservation and marketing at the hotel. He is in contact with the visitors, so you can find him many times at the lobby of the hotel talking and welcoming the guests. As he lives very close to his work, it’s hard for him to disconnect because many times, he is requested while resting at home. He has at least on free day to enjoy the island, and on that day, he goes to Gamboa just to breathe fresh air.

The Pousada Pérola do Morro has a commitment to the sustainability through initiatives that contribute to the environment, as energy-efficiency system in 100% of the rooms, as well as solar heating system in 70% of them. Besides, there are other concerns about the environment and about the water saving (through capturing rainwater) and also for the use of recycled paper in printed materials.

In addition, every month the pousada also contributes with donations to the church.
The Pousada Pérola do Morro has its social responsabilities, supporting work which aims the preservation of cultural heritage of Morro de Sao Paulo.
